Trending Increases in Men’s Cosmetic Surgery
For the last 10-plus years, men’s cosmetic surgery has become a growing trend. What once were procedures exclusive to the province of women who wanted to remain young-looking as well as patients that had been disfigured in horrific accidents has turned into a trend that defies genders.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery indicated that in 2015, Americans spent over $13.5 billion to improve their looks. About 9.5 percent of that total was spent on male patients, but what is notable is the number of men partaking in cosmetic procedures has grown by 325 percent since 1997. Just what type of cosmetic procedures are men undergoing? Here are the five most popular procedures for men.
Rhinoplasty
More commonly called a nose job, rhinoplasty is the most popular cosmetic surgery for men. The procedure is commonly done for men who don’t like the size or shape of their nose or who may have difficulty breathing through their nose. Regular guys no longer hesitate to get the procedure done in an effort to have a more symmetrical looking face and a more masculine profile.
Blepharoplasty
Almost equally as popular is blepharoplasty, which addresses the eyelids. Many older executives get this procedure in an effort to look younger and less tired. In this procedure, a plastic surgeon makes small incisions in the crease of the eyelid to remove excess skin. The result is fewer wrinkles and crow’s feet, less puffiness and eyelids that sag less.
Male Breast Reduction
Over the last few years, this procedure has gained tremendously in popularity for men who want to reduce breast size and have more defined pectoral muscles. It’s also commonly done for men who suffer from Gynecomastia, a condition that causes enlarged male breasts due to hormones, genetics, obesity or drug use. Breast size is reduced using liposuction, excision of skin and repositioning of the nipple, if necessary.

Liposuction
In addition to removing fat around the chest, liposuction is increasingly used for body contouring in men in the abdomen and around the love handles to avoid the “grandpa look.”

Facelift
A Rhytidectomy reduces multiple signs of aging on the face and neck and is popular for men who have sagging or loose facial skin or deep creases. Incisions are made starting at the temples, around the ears and at the lower scalp to tighten and pull back skin. Facial fat may also be repositioned.
