After Liposuction

Liposuction Dos and Don’ts

Liposuction is a relatively quick and safe procedure, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea to go into it without any preparation. Like any surgical procedure, there are a few things that the patient can do to make the process go smoothly, and a few things that they need to avoid in order to prevent problems.

DO: Your Research

Getting liposuction is a big decision, so it needs to be an informed choice. Make sure that you’ve discussed all of your options with your doctor before you decide to take the plunge. There are also several different types of liposuction with different benefits, so take the time learn about all of them to make sure that you choose the right type.

DON’T: Mix Medicines

Many people who are considering liposuction are already taking medications. It’s never safe to assume that it is safe to keep taking them after the surgery. Depending on the type of liposuction that you choose, you might need to take certain medication during the recovery period, and those medications can react with other medicines that you might be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor about all of the medicines that you usually take so you can avoid any complications. This even applies to things that seem harmless, like vitamin supplements. When in doubt, ask. It’s never a good idea to make assumptions when you’re making medical choices.

DO: Follow Instructions

Your surgeon will tell you everything that you need to know to take care of yourself before and after the procedure. Follow all of the instructions to the letter, even ones that seem unimportant or easy to forget. Every instruction serves a purpose, and the only way to be sure of a successful procedure is to follow all of them.

DON’T: Expect Immediate Results

Remember that nothing happens immediately when the human body is involved. Bodies need time to adjust, so you won’t look your best right after the procedure. It can take a few months for the final results to appear, so it’s best to go into the surgery with a little bit of patience.

A little bit of preparation goes a long way when it comes to making sure that liposuction goes well, and it always pays to make things easy for the doctor. Keep those tips in mind to make sure that that everything goes right the first time.
