Cosmetic Surgery and Liposuction Trends for 2017: A Look Ahead
Every year, aesthetic associations release their annual forecast for the upcoming year. Magazines, bloggers and even television talk show hosts eagerly eat these statistics up. These stats let us know which procedures are trending, which are tanking and occasionally, provide us with a little bit of cultural context as to the reason why.
But, as you know, hindsight is always 20/20. It’s looking into the future that takes chutzpah. Below are some of the cosmetic surgery world’s take on what is sure to make headlines in 2017.
Smooth is the New Plump
Say farewell to overly plump cheeks and hyperinflated lips. The focus will be toward smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles as opposed to inflating. Expect to see more natural looking, wrinkle-free faces than you did in 2016.
PRP Injections are Here to Stay
As the list of possible uses of platelet-rich plasma continues to grow, expect this procedure to surge in popularity in 2017. From facial contouring to hair restoration, platelet-rich-plasma is making it’s mark in the world of aesthetics.
Breast Implants are Making a Comeback
The word on the street is that women are requesting smaller and perkier breasts, but the tabloids are still buzzing about Kylie Jenner’s ample cleavage. Love them or hate them, the Kardashians have had an enormous impact on pop culture and cosmetic surgery industry. And just as millions followed suit in plumping up their pouts, the odds are that Kardashian fans will also up their ante on their upper half.
CoolSculpting
In 2016, we saw a lot of attention given to non-invasive reduction of turkey necks and double chins. Kybella dissolves fat, whereas CoolSculpting reduces fat through cryolipolysis. The new CoolSculpting Mini is getting rave reviews for treating laxity in the neck area, so expect to see it used for other areas of persistent fat as well, particularly underarm fat.
Tumescent Anesthesia
Traditional liposuction used to involve patients being sedated or put under general anesthesia during the procedure. Thanks to the development of tumescent anesthesia, liposuction is now performed considered an outpatient procedure and requires a shorter recovery period.
Everyone has a Preference
Although some women are going a size up, there are still women who want to reduce the size of their breasts. Instagram’s fitness revolution has made the new desired body type lean and taut. Simply put, overly inflated chests are out. The largest group of women wanting breast reductions are those who’ve given birth. These women want to restore their breasts to what they were before childbirth.
Whether you want to slim your waist or plump your lips, 2017 is going to be a phenomenal year in the world of plastic surgery.
