Liposuction Aftercare Tips

The recovery period can have a positive or negative impact on the results of your liposuction. There are many things that you will need to do in order to ensure that you recover properly.

Going Home

You will not be able to drive yourself home after your surgery. That is why you will need to arrange for someone to pick you up after surgery. You should also have someone stay with you for at least 24 hours after surgery. You may need help walking and getting out of the bed.

Prevent Blood Clots

You will need to keep your legs elevated for the first two or three days that you are in bed. This will reduce the risk of blood clots. Avoid crossing your legs because this can increase the risk of blood clots.

Avoid Strenuous Activity

You will need to avoid doing strenuous activity for a few weeks after surgery. However you should start walking as soon as you feel up to it. This can prevent blood clots.

Follow a Healthy Diet

You may not feel up to eating right after you get liposuction. However, it is important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking water and fruit juices. You can also eat soft foods such as crackers, mashed potatoes, jello and soup.

Use Pain Medication Wisely

You will likely have pain for a few days after surgery. You can manage this pain with medication. However, you will need to use it exactly as your doctor recommends.

Keep in mind that the results of liposuction are gradual. Your body retains fluids, which is one of the reasons that you may not notice results immediately. It will also take about three months for the swelling to completely go down. You will likely notice the full results after all the swelling goes down.
